At what point in life does one consider becoming an alpaca owner? It may be during your career building years. Many have found the tax breaks to be profitable. The three H’s of summer: hot, hazy and humid have all arrived together at Racheal Farms. By mid April, we had already hit the 90 mark, so shearing day was moved up to mid May. This was a bit of a challenge since that is also show season. But, we managed to get them all shorn and shown.
All three of our show alpacas received ribbons, even our grand-daughter Katie took home a ribbon in showmanship (her first time in the ring, too).
By June, our first cria arrived and dressed in her pink cria coat, stole our hearts. RFI Thunder Rose or Rosie to us is a 26 pound bundle of fuzzy fleece and unlimited energy. With her long legs, she covers the pasture in seconds and delights in racing around and under her Momma and Aunts.
Farm health days have gone well and we learn more each time. Every month, our hands become more nimble with the shots and our eyes become more precise in scoring their weight. Records are kept of their vaccines and their weight so we can be sure all are healthy and happy.
The one lesson we learned is portability. If we were to begin again, we would make sure nothing was permanent. Fences, stalls and pastures have been changed, grain bins, once nailed down are now movable and hay carts are now in wagons with wheels and handles. Even the once permanent chicken coop has been moved three times.
Yes, life is ever-changing at Racheal Farms. The days are filled with new and interesting happenings. So, call and stop by for a visit. The girls and Vidal are always happy to meet and greet our guests.

Divinity is a beautiful fawn female with gorgeous fleece. The consistent high quality color and soft hand is produced from her champion family tree. Genetics which include Jericho, Donovan, Matador and Quetzal can bring consistent style and

Zathura is a lovely brown female with crimpy, bright fleece. Her soft fleece presents with advanced crimp and density so typical of a Quetzal offspring. Her pedigree is expected to produce outstanding color for any breeding program. She is being bred to the phenomenal champion sire, Formula 1.
If you breed for silver grey, rose grey, black or even brown, Dona Flavia is a champion-producing female. Her rose grey daughters include multiple champion, MFI Peruvian Falzah and multiple ribbon winner, Peruvian Flavita. Falzah’s gorgeous black daughter, Faboulista sold for $45,000. Her son, MFI Peruvian Front Page currently stands on Magical Farms herd sire row.
